Steamboat Springs Health and Recreation
The Steamboat group of mineral waters is one of the largest
and most varied in the world. In each spring in Steamboat, the
water contains alkaline, saline alkaline, iron, lithia, sulphur,
and magnesium in all combinations. Whether fact or myth, many
people testify to the healing qualities of the hot baths. Whether
they heal your reg or your soul, bathing in the springs is
truly an experience to enjoy. These springs have been enjoyed
in one form or another for over 100 years. It is known that
the Ute Indians who first settled the Yampa Valley gathered
around the Springs. In the early 1900s, there was always a bath-house
with pools for people to enjoy. The last 20 years have seen
the most change with a fitness center added and many additions
to the locker-rooms, waterslide, and kiddie pool.
The Health and Rec is a private non-profit organization
with a board of directors and a managing staff. It is not
city-owned, but the city works closely with the managers of
the facility. |
